Webinar Session with Dr Sanjeeva Kumar Majumdar

MHRD Innovation Cell organized a webinar on 7th May, 2020 in which Leadership Talk was delivered by Dr Sanjeeva Kumar Majumdar, Manager-IPR, StartUp & Incubation, National Research Development Corporation, New Delhi, on the topic: “Intellectual Property (IP) Management at Early Stage of Innovation and Start-ups”.

In the session Dr Sanjeeva Kumar Majumdar covered the following subtopics: What is intellectual property ( IP); Types and importance of IP; How to Identify IP Component and Manage, Do’s & Don’ts, Where to approach and preparation before filing IP, commercialization of IP – Startup and Technology Transfer.

Dr Majumdar advised that Startups and Entrepreneurs need to invest on IP identification and management. They should develop an IP strategy considering all forms of IP, conduct trademark availability and domain name clearance searches, involve IP Attorneys and use NDA at early stages of business. Startups/Entrepreneurs should not skimp on IP budget, file perfunctory provisional patent applications, should not focus on patent application on a specific technology, should not ignore competitors’ patents and should be meticulous in paying attention to details.

Dr. Majumdar then picked up the topic of Technology Transfer. He defined Technology Transfer as the movement or flow of technical knowledge, design, prototype, data, know-how, trade material, invention, software from one party to another capable of commercialization.
